My name is Irina Nieva. I am a young photographer from Girona, Spain.
Outside of photography, I spend my time reading, cooking, baking, watching movies, and learning new things. Above all, I love being with my loved ones: my mum and my grandma, from whom I have learned so much, and of course, my dog, Kora. I adopted Kora in 2019 and since then my world revolves around her. She is the most obedient dog in the world, who shows her love unconditionally (though she can be quite crazy sometimes!). We love hiking together and exploring around the woods – it is the perfect way to de-stress, keep my mind at peace, and take lots of photographs!
I was never sure really sure what to do in life, or what to become, but I always knew that I wanted to do something special. Something I could pour myself into, to make a difference in this world.
Seven years ago I took my first photo on a professional camera and that is when I felt it: that spark. In that moment I knew photography was meant for me.
Photography can be used in so many different ways, from expressing one’s thoughts, to capturing a spontaneous moment that made you laugh, to keeping a special memory alive forever. When I see photos I took, when I remember every detail of that moment; nothing makes me happier.
I want to also create that spark for others: to make them smile, or to call them to action to make our society a better a better place for everyone.
The main theme of my projects is social injustice. I am inspired by people who fight for what they believe in to enact change. I want my work to highlight everything it means to be human, to give a voice to those who do not have one, to shine a light on social inequality, justice, and awareness on human rights, so we can all move forward together. I am also inspired by the people close to my life, who often suffer mistreatment for being who they are or how they are.
After finishing my studies in photography, I would like to explore the field of cinema, particularly motion graphics, filmmaking, or film studies, with the goal of becoming a director of photography one day. Even the simplest photo, taken because I liked the idea, or the light, or maybe it spoke to me personally; these can all inspire others to learn something new, and do something special in their own lives: for themselves, as well as for others.
